Video Visit to the Albemarle County Fair
Posted:Thu, 2 Sep 2010 23:22:17 -0400
Rick Sincere News and Thoughts:- On Friday night I went to the Albemarle County Fair. The weather was near-perfect -- pleasant temperatures, low humidity, and no rain or wind to dampen the festivities.
Hollowness of the right's freedom-rhetoric
Posted:Thu, 2 Sep 2010 23:15:08 -0400
Sisyphus:- The right wing of the Republican Party has found asserting the cause of freedom and raising the specter of big government has become has become a useful rhetorical device to oppose and even block reform legislation by our elected representatives to make life better for the American people. If the “freedom talk” were truly based upon libertarian principles then an interesting debate might ensue but sadly it is quite hollow. These same conservatives promote state power to wage...

On twenty years with Crohn's disease
Posted:Thu, 2 Sep 2010 23:14:47 -0400
SW Virginia law blog:- In 1990, I was about to get married, and I knew there was something wrong with me, but didn't know what. I went to see old Dr. Shaffer, who referred me to a gastroenterologist, who figured out that I have Crohn's disease, and who has been my good friend and doctor for twenty years. The Crohn's diagnosis was more than confirmed in November 1996 or thereabouts when a Bristol surgeon removed eighteen inches of bad guts, that were tormenting me.

Capping spending at this time --...

Poll after poll has recently shown Ms. Scozzafava badly trailing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman. This is a stunning--and much-deserved--rebuke to the Party of Bush and a bright light in the conservative renaissance. Way to go, New York conservatives!!

So far, McDonnell has raised $10.7 million through 6/30/09, compared to Jerry Kilgore having raised $8.6 million through 6/30/05. While this seems like a positive, the question is whether the party committees are front loading their contributions.
