Quitgate: What It Means to You
Posted:Sun, 4 Jan 2009 12:23:37 -0500
Mistake by the Lake Sporting Times:- I try to avoid the -gate suffix, but today I'll make an exception. Quitgate perfectly sums up the stupidity of this story. Faced with an embarassing loss against the Broncos and a much-longer-than-normal amount of time until the next game, Browns fans and the media found, unsurprisingly, something to argue about and pin the loss on. Otherwise, how many "previewing the Bills" articles could you stand?

Born and Raised on the Cleveland Browns: Week 10
Posted:Sat, 3 Jan 2009 12:24:07 -0500
Mistake by the Lake Sporting Times:- Hello readers. I realize it's been almost a week since the Browns lost to the Broncos; truth is, our schedules are making it increasingly harder with each passing week to publish "Born and Raised" in anything resembling a timely fashion. In fact, this week, Alex had to pass off his blogging duties to his assistant, Jean-Pierre, whose scribblings were so incomprehensible, I decided to just go ahead and publish a solo edition this week. We're sorry for this inconvenience, and we'll do our best to return to normal "Born and Raiseds" next week.

Organic/Mechanic:- Ever since I found out that Abraham was incoming, I’ve not worked out. Cardio and less gorging [...]

LeBron Day 2008
Posted:Fri, 2 Jan 2009 00:23:22 -0500
Mistake by the Lake Sporting Times:- It's the most wonderful time of the year and for the fifth consecutive December 30, Corey and I and a few friends closed it out with a raucous celebration of LeBron Day. If you're unfamiliar with this most holy of days, every December 30, the faithful are compelled to make a pilgrimage to Akron, Ohio to visit the sites of LeBron's youth. After that, it's back to Cleveland for a LeBron Day party, i.e. watching the Cavs play the Heat, and the LeBron Olympics!

Browns at Redskins Preview
Posted:Thu, 1 Jan 2009 12:41:22 -0500
Mistake by the Lake Sporting Times:- After a game like Monday's 35-14 extravaganza, there is a strong temptation to "decide" that the Browns are "back on track" and that therefore, the numbers from the first four games no longer "represent" them. However, history suggests that a sudden turnaround like this is more likely to be an outlier than a Change We Can Believe In. It's possible that the Browns will continue to show 2007 form, but if we want to make the best possible prediction at this moment in time, we have to treat last week's game as one data point in five, nothing more. It would take at least a few weeks of domination for us to start thinking about discounting the early season results.
Bored and Malaised on the Cleveland Browns
Posted:Thu, 1 Jan 2009 00:41:18 -0500
Mistake by the Lake Sporting Times:- Regular readers have surely noticed recently that there just aren't as many articles on our blog anymore. And when Corey or I write something new, it's often long past the arbitary deadline we had tried to impose. This has been most obvious in the case of "Born and Raised on the Cleveland Browns"—a weekly football season tradition since 2004. We used to publish "Born and Raised" on the Monday after a game, but those days are obviously long gone.

Born and Raised on the Cleveland Browns: Week 6
Posted:Tue, 30 Dec 2008 12:41:22 -0500
Mistake by the Lake Sporting Times:- This game showed that I know nothing about football. Or I certainly can't judge football talent. I have been calling for Derek Anderson to be benched since the beginning of the season, mostly because I thought he had a low-ceiling and was bound to make stupid mistakes. And against the Giants, he was, if not spectacular, very good. He threw accurately and efficiently. He even failed to make any Anderson-esque mistakes (though maybe we should call them Frye-esque).
Christmas Post-mortem
Posted:Mon, 29 Dec 2008 18:37:09 -0500
Organic/Mechanic:- It is nice to be back home in Cleveland. I spent a week back in my old Indiana stomping grounds; mainly eating and visiting with my family. Christmas itself was excellent, even though I only managed to scrape together 2 hours of sleep after midnight mass. The grandparents and anyone who was on our Christmas [...]
